  Scratch, scratch, scratch...
Well folks, let me enlighten you to a little critter that seems to be abundant in Arizona. It is called a Cedar Gnat. it is tiny, sounds like a high pitched dentist drill when it gets in your ear... and it bites. I am covered with bites from the little pesky things. I look like I have the chicken pox! The itch will drive you crazy... It keeps you from sleeping at night... It has my right eye swollen and there is a big puffy place beneath my eye. I have the bites all through my hair... It is an awful experience. Jericho and Whiskey have welts all over them as well. We are spraying with insecticide and using Skin So Soft from Avon. We are using those insect repellent wipes while we are riding... and still it does no good. Marla has quite a few bites herself and Edie doesn't seem to have any! I usually ride in front of her and I think they find me and just eat me up and leave her alone. Either that or she is just not as tasty to them. At any rate... I will be glad when we are out of the Cedar Gnat's territory. He is one Arizona resident that I will not mind saying goodbye to.... I love and miss you all.....Andi

Sorry to hear about the gnat bites. In northern Arizona the word GNAT is a cuss word.
Marla is on her way with some relief in the form of Avon bug off stuff. You ladies take care and do not underestimate the danger of over-exposure to those cedar gnat bites. Long sleeves and a neckerchief and a hat. Cowboys did not dress like modern day riders for reasons. Love to you all, Milt & Gail at Spirit Wind

Edie,

I am going to use your Soapbox a minuteā€¦.It is pretty bad that in the year 2007 you cannot even get a CALL BACK from a large animal vet after Hours. I live in Abbeville SC and after numerous calls to 4 Large Animal Vets within a 65 mile radius we still have not had a return call.

I lost a miniature horse and her unborn foal last night. We would have done anything for some help, advice, or returned phone call from a VETERNARIAN.

In case a Vet in the Abbeville SC and Surrounding Areas forgot the following is for you

Yes, the American Veterinary Medical Association adopted the following oath in 1969:
"Being admitted to the profession of veterinary medicine, I solemnly swear to use my scientific knowledge and skills for the benefit of society through the protection of animal health, the relief of animal suffering, the conservation of livestock resources, the promotion of public health, and the advancement of medical knowledge. I will practice my profession conscientiously, with dignity, and in keeping with the principles of veterinary medical ethics.
I accept as a lifelong obligation the continual improvement of my professional knowledge and competence."

Edith Irene,
I did a little research on the Cedar Gnat. I really hated to say anything because I would never want to hurt anyone's feelings but it appears that those gnats are attracked to stinky smelling things instead of sweet or pleasant smells. Now being your brother and being just as kind and sweet as you are, I can understand the situation.LOL No really I just wanted to tell you to be careful and we are praying for y'all. We love y'all and miss you too. Love, Kenny&Danette
